Introducing SAGE’s “Social Prescription Calendar”, a collection of Brown County area arts and culture events that are FREE to participants and attendees.
In the summer of 2024, SAGE began researching the concept of Social Prescribing, collecting studies and reading our way through a pile of books that highlight the importance of social infrastructure in order to build social capital and all for the sake of living in a thriving, supportive community. What we learned was that our programs like Open Studio, our “One Night Only” exhibits, Creatively Engaged Community, and even our Modern Warriors initiative were all perfect candidates for social prescribing. We called on some of our best collaborators to oversee two of the necessary three roles in Social Prescribing- Link Workers and Community Organizations (many of these orgs are both!). In late January of 2025 we gathered and SAGE gave a presentation on the collaborative proposal. Thus, the Social Prescription Calendar made its way to existence, and we greatly look forward to being present for our community members and their mental health as we collectively address this epidemic of isolation and loneliness.

Staged Reading- "Machinal"
GBCT will be hosting a staged reading of "Machinal" by Sophie Treadwell, directed by Kimberly King and Melisa Quintence, on Saturday, March 21 at 4:00pm at the Robert Lee Brault Playhouse.
SYNOPSIS:
Inspired by the infamous 1927 case of Ruth Snyder, a woman condemned to the electric chair for murdering her husband, “Machinal” follows a young woman through a life that feels crushing and pre-determined, as she feels forced to assume the roles of wife and mother at the cost of her own identity. After being pressured to marry and have a baby with her boss, she is driven to rebellion, fueled by passion and desperation to break free from the overbearing weight of opression.
The play remains a landmark of American Expressionist theater nearly a century after its debut, offering powerful critiques of patriarchal capitalism and societal expectations to conform to “the machine.” (Drama, Society, Feminism)
This show is free to the public with open seating. No tickets are required for entry, and voluntary donations can be given to support the theater.
This event is made possible by a grant from the American Rescue Plan Act.
